What is an FCE?

A functional capacity evaluation (FCE) is a method of measuring an individual’s ability to perform meaningful tasks on a safe and dependable basis. Its purpose is to collect information about the functional limitations of an individual with medical impairments. An FCE is a valuable tool to evaluate a patient’s recovery, determine treatment goals, and assist injured workers gain employment.

Constituents of an FCE

Usually, an FCE will commence with a client interview, a medical review, and a muscuskeletal screening. These three components will help our specialists better treat your condition or limitation. Next, is the performance evaluation. The performance evaluation will consist of several tasks designed to objectively describe a person’s maximum capabilities in the following seven major areas:

  • Dynamic Strength
  • Position Tolerance
  • Mobile Coordination
  • Fine Motor Skills
  • Balance
  • Endurance

Also, individual tasks may be designed based upon the patient’s limitations and impairments.

Who is An FCE Used By?

An FCE can be used for a variety of reasons. FCE reports can be used by various place as well.
